The headlights and taillights had to be rewired because the bulbs would burn out when they were months old. Occasionally the window belts will break and the glass will get stuck down in the door.
x5 e53 transmission problem. I have x5 e53 from 2005 year, problem is when I drive downhill in automatic mode, gear D, board info display show "EMERGENCY PROGRAM CAMBIO" (italian menu language) and than i can't shift in manual and S mode. i stop turn off the engine lock and unlock the car. Start the car again and everything was back to normal.
Norban. Just thought I'd post about my recent issue with my 2006 X5 4.4i and the solution. Kicking transmissions seems to be a common problem so thought this might help. Yea, as Supercourse was saying, this is not service light reset deal (particularly because BMW pretends this fluid should not need changing). There is an X-Drive BMW tech class document (in one of the forums can't find the thread right now), which states: "Transfer Case Oil and Monitoring:

Do not bother repairing the transmission because there is nothing to fix. This is a problem on all of the E53 X5's 4.4i. I have the exact same model as you and we have the same problem. Do not try to fix it the thing is this car does not handle those conditions well. I do not know why the car's transmission just doesn't like it.

Limping back to the house in third, I check for the explanations for this message and found a bunch of answers including that my transmission could have failed. (ah ****). My shops owner told me the same things, so I left it for a couple of days. Well I got the X5 back yesterday and the problem was solved by rebooting the X5's ON BOARD COMPUTER.
2003 X5 E53 4.6. automatic gearbox problems. Can anyone help? X5 4.6. Gearbox works fine through the gears and from standing start but if you slow down to virtually a stand still and go to accelerate before stopping it struggles to select/get a gear and can snatch quite harsh at times. Don't do it often.
